DESCRIPTION:On Saturday\, November 29th\, 2025\, at 10:00 a.m.\, the Anza Trail Foundation and the Yuma County Library District will host Arizona trails expert Dr. Aaron Wright\, of Archaeology Southwest\, for a free presentation on the historic 1775-76 Anza Expedition\, to be held at the Foothills Library.\n\nDr. Wright’s presentation\, Following Their Footsteps: Indigenous Geography and the Anza Expedition of 1775-1776\, will explore how this Spanish colonial expedition utilized pre-existing indigenous trail infrastructure and knowledge to ensure a successful journey.\n\nThe Yuma presentation is part of the Anza250 Lecture Series\, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the epic 1775-76 Anza Expedition\, when over 240 Spanish colonists trekked overland from Sinaloa\, Mexico\, across Alta California (including present-day southern Arizona and California) to establish a Spanish presence in San Francisco.\n\nThe Anza250 Lecture series has been made possible by a generous grant from Arizona Humanities\, and the Yuma lecture is brought to you by a partnership between the Anza Trail Foundation\, the Yuma County Library District\, and the Yuma Crossing National Heritage Area.

SUMMARY:32nd Annual Frankie L. Chavez Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser
DESCRIPTION:Memorial Scholarship Fundraiser that was started in 1995 after our son Frankie and his friend Nathan Mata were killed in a car accident on December 4\, 1993 in Calipatria. Frankie had just graduated in June from Brawley Union High School. Our event will be held at Hinojosa Park in Brawley\, Ca. We will have live entertainment\, Deep Pit BBQ plates for $15.00\, (drive thru available) and our softball\, and horseshoe tournaments. We will also raffle a Royal Gourmet Grill\, Video Projector\, 20 inch Bike\, and other prizes. It is our goal to raise money so that we may award scholarships to Brawley Union High and Calipatria High school seniors who will be attending college. DESCRIPTION:The City of Yuma’s Arts and Culture Division invites the community to the 33rd annual Children’s Festival of the Arts on Saturday\, April 18\, 2026\, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the Yuma Art Center (254 south Main Street). This free\, family-friendly event is open to all ages. \nThis year’s festival features an America 250 theme in celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday. Interactive art activities and exhibits will highlight all 50 states\, national monuments\, and U.S. presidents. As part of the experience\, the Yuma Art Center galleries will be transformed into a “White House” inspired exhibit\, featuring symbolic recreations of rooms such as the Oval Office\, Blue Room\, East Room\, and Green Room. \nThroughout the day\, families can explore more than 50 free make-and-take art booths\, where children can create hands-on art projects and take home their own masterpieces. The event also includes a foam party\, food vendors\, community booths\, and live youth performances featuring local dance studios\, martial arts demonstrations\, and music acts. \nInside the Yuma Art Center\, visitors can explore the annual Youth Art Exhibition\, showcasing student artwork submitted by teachers from across Yuma County and Winterhaven.
