DESCRIPTION:The Somerton Tamale Festival returns Saturday\, December 20 at 11 a.m. \nArizona State University (ASU) El Diablito Alumni Chapter will sponsor the 18th Annual Somerton Tamale Festival on December 20\, 2025. \nThe memory of preparing and enjoying our families’ tamales during the holiday season is a cultural tradition. Using that same tradition and unique family recipes\, the El Diablito Alumni Club has organized the festival to showcase Yuma County’s best and finest tamales. This all-day event features music\, cultural dances\, and a variety of tamales which have attracted a range of people including local families\, senior citizens\, teenagers and out-of-state travelers. \nThe ASU El Diablito Alumni Club\, along with many local sponsors\, has helped students achieve their goal of attending college for the past 20 years by providing over $450\,000 in scholarships to local students attending ASU. The Somerton Tamale Festival has helped boost the local economy by attracting thousands of visitors. \nThis event features vendors and showcases the community’s non-profit and school clubs. According to the Yuma Sun\, the Tamale Festival attracted 30\,000 people in previous year. This event was featured in Phoenix magazine as one of the top 52 weekend adventures in the state. The El Diablito ASU Alumni Club is seeking your support for this event. SUMMARY:Children's Festival of the Arts 2026
DESCRIPTION:The City of Yuma’s Arts and Culture Division invites the community to the 33rd annual Children’s Festival of the Arts on Saturday\, April 18\, 2026\, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the Yuma Art Center (254 south Main Street). This free\, family-friendly event is open to all ages. \nThis year’s festival features an America 250 theme in celebration of the nation’s 250th birthday. Interactive art activities and exhibits will highlight all 50 states\, national monuments\, and U.S. presidents. As part of the experience\, the Yuma Art Center galleries will be transformed into a “White House” inspired exhibit\, featuring symbolic recreations of rooms such as the Oval Office\, Blue Room\, East Room\, and Green Room. \nThroughout the day\, families can explore more than 50 free make-and-take art booths\, where children can create hands-on art projects and take home their own masterpieces. The event also includes a foam party\, food vendors\, community booths\, and live youth performances featuring local dance studios\, martial arts demonstrations\, and music acts. \nInside the Yuma Art Center\, visitors can explore the annual Youth Art Exhibition\, showcasing student artwork submitted by teachers from across Yuma County and Winterhaven. The exhibition features artwork from over 30 teachers\, representing grades K–12 in a wide variety of mediums\, including watercolor\, acrylic\, colored pencil\, graphite\, and ceramics. \n“Children’s Festival of the Arts is a celebration of creativity\, imagination\, and young voices\,” said Kristyn Trujillo\, Recreation Program Coordinator. “The festival gives students a chance to see their artwork displayed in a real gallery setting\, building confidence and pride in their work.” \nFor event details\, visit yumaaz.gov/ChildrensFest.
