DESCRIPTION:  \nWHAT: SDSU Imperial Valley\, the Calexico Rotary Club and the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico will host the Mariachi sin Fronteras festival in celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day on Sept. 16. \n\nThe event – which is free and open to the public – will have more than 20 local food\, drinks\, arts and crafts vendors\, including musical and arts performances from Folkloric Sunshine\, Mariachi Amanecer\, Grupo Norteno Corona and Mariachi Aurora de Calexico. The Consulate of Mexico in Calexico will voice the traditional “Grito de Independencia” to conclude the celebration of the event. \n\nA special\, visual exhibition of Mexican popular proverbs called\, “¡A Darle que es Mole de Olla!” will be available to visit at the Steppling Art Gallery during the event. \n\nAll proceeds will fund scholarships for both local high school and SDSU Imperial Valley students looking to begin or advance their higher education journeys. DESCRIPTION:October is Crime Prevention Month.  Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods (G.A.I.N.) is an event held by police agencies statewide to join forces and promote awareness\, safety\, and neighborhood unity. \nThis event enables area law enforcement\, military\, fire\, and rescue agencies\, to bring some of their equipment to display to the public. Other local organizations and non-profits will also be present.  All participants are encouraged to speak with the public about a variety of topics such as safety programs\, careers\, and public safety issues.  The G.A.I.N event allows our community to meet our first responders\, military\, and non-profit personnel to help build relationships and make our community a safer place.  We had over 30 agencies\, organizations\, and non-profits participate in 2022 and hope to have the same amount this year. \nG.A.I.N. is scheduled for Saturday\, October 14\, 2023\, from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm in the Target store parking lot\, 1450 E. Yuma Palms Parkway. Target along with other local businesses\, will provide a limited supply of complementary hotdogs\, chips\, water\, and sodas.
