DESCRIPTION:  \nWHAT: SDSU Imperial Valley\, the Calexico Rotary Club and the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico will host the Mariachi sin Fronteras festival in celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day on Sept. 16. \n\nThe event – which is free and open to the public – will have more than 20 local food\, drinks\, arts and crafts vendors\, including musical and arts performances from Folkloric Sunshine\, Mariachi Amanecer\, Grupo Norteno Corona and Mariachi Aurora de Calexico. The Consulate of Mexico in Calexico will voice the traditional “Grito de Independencia” to conclude the celebration of the event. \n\nA special\, visual exhibition of Mexican popular proverbs called\, “¡A Darle que es Mole de Olla!” will be available to visit at the Steppling Art Gallery during the event. \n\nAll proceeds will fund scholarships for both local high school and SDSU Imperial Valley students looking to begin or advance their higher education journeys. It is highly encouraged for attendees to bring lawn chairs or blankets as the Rollie Carrillo Quad will be open for seating. \n\nInterview clips from the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico and the Calexico Rotary Club are available for preliminary quotes or broadcast coverage.\n\nWHEN: Saturday\, Sept. 16\, doors will open at 6 p.m.\n\nWHERE: SDSU Imperial Valley\, 720 Heber Ave. Calexico\, Calif. 92231.  \n \nPARKING: Parking is available at the parking lot located off E. DESCRIPTION:For the first time ever in the U.S.\, the UK’s very own punk rock group TV Smith’s THE ADVERTS \, live at the Red Moon Ale House in Yuma\, AZ!! Doors 8pm\, all ages\, ADV $15 with guests The Shadow plus more TBA. \nWith their raw\, enthusiastic immaturity\, the Adverts were a bright\, though short-lived\, light of the punk era\, distinguished by the fact that their bassist\, Gaye Advert\, was one of the first female stars of punk rock. After they (barely) mastered one chord\, the Adverts began playing at London’s Roxy Club in 1976\, where they quickly came to the attention of the Damned’s guitarist Brian James. James offered the band an opening spot on the Damned’s tour and directed them toward Stiff Records. Stiff released their self-deprecating debut single\, “One Chord Wonders\,” in 1977\, when the band could still barely play\, but when they released their second single\, the disturbingly funny “Gary Gilmore’s Eyes\,” the group rocketed into the U.K. Top 20 in a storm of controversy.
