DESCRIPTION:Kids in Calexico will have a chance to participate in the Youth Basketball League.\n\nThe Calexico Recreation Department is hosting the league in mid-March\, and is divided into two divisions: One division for 4th through 6th graders\, and another division for 7th through 8th graders.\n\n\n\nKids can expect teen and adult volunteer coaches\, skill development\, and fitness and conditioning drills.\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\n \n\nPractices will be held every Saturday at David Tessada Gym\, located at 824 Blair Avenue\, at the following times:\n\n \n\n 	4th-6th Grade: 1:00-2:30 p.m.\n \n 	7th-8th Grade: 2:45-4:15 p.m.\n\n \n\nThe games will take place on Sunday\, with the schedule yet to be determined.\n\nIf anyone wants to participate in the league\, registration is now open at the Calexico Community Center\, located at 707 Dool Avenue. The fee is $30.

DESCRIPTION:The Yuma Police Department (YPD) is teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) for National Take Back Day. \nThe event is a way to give the community a safe alternative to get rid of unwanted or expired prescription medication. \nYuma residents can drop them off this Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the YPD headquarters on South First Avenue. \nNo ID is needed and the service is free and anonymous. \nYPD says it is a way to help prevent drug misuse and keep old medications from ending up in the wrong hands. \nHowever\, they won’t be accepting liquids\, needs or illegal drugs.

DESCRIPTION:Surviving a harrowing burn incident is bad enough\, but for children\, they lose their skin elasticity and therefore need extensive skin grafts to support their growing bodies. Westin has had 4 surgeries just this year!\n\n\nHow cool is this? A bunch of Yuma Fire Department dudes take turns donating their skin for grafting!\n\n\nThese complicated procedures obviously aren’t being done here in town\, so on top of the enormous cost of ongoing medical care\, lodging\, gas\, etc. it all adds up quick for these families.\n\n\nA good friend of mine from Alice Byrne Elementary died of cancer\, and during that time his family lost everything they owned (RIP Joe Guzman). DESCRIPTION:The City of El Centro is hosting a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of Buena Vista Park next month. \nThe ceremony is taking place\, Saturday\, May 3\, 2025\, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.\, at 1010 Fieldview Avenue. \nGuests can bring a picnic blanket and a lawn chair during the event\, as well as enjoy lawn games\, music\, and free hot dogs from the first 200 visitors. \nThe park is said to be “the latest addition to El Centro’s growing park system and was made possible through Measure P funding and a grant from the California Climate Investments Urban Greening Program.” \nIn addition\, the park is also said to offer El Centro residents “a fresh new space to enjoy the outdoors and connect with neighbors.” \nFor more information about the ceremony\, and the park itself\, contact the El Centro Economic Development Department at (760) 337-4543.
