Harvest will have several booths based on different countries celebrating Christmas around the world! PLUS\, children can drop off letters to Santa at the end of the tunnel. All children will receive a candy cane and activities to take home. Admission is a donation of a toy or 3 canned food items for their Annual Operation Eggnog\, to help needy families this holiday season. Cash donations are also accepted.

DESCRIPTION:The Arizona Western College Visual and Performing Arts Department is teaming up to present an evening of music and theater for the community to enjoy during their annual fundraising event. \nThe Radio Active Players will present Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol\, adapted for the AWC stage by Professor of Theatre Ann Wilkinson and English faculty member Jonathan Close. The event will also include choir and band performances under the direction of Professor of Choral and Vocal Music Deltrina D. Grimes and Professor of Instrumental Music Dr. Louis Pollard. \n“Guests will have an opportunity to see and hear the progress that our students are achieving. They will also have an opportunity to hear directly from our scholarship recipients\,” said Deltrina D. Grimes.The shows will be held at 7:00pm on Saturday\, Dec. 2\, and at 2:00pm on Sunday\, Dec. 3\, at the AWC Theatre\, 2020 S. Ave. 8E. \nTicket prices are $5 for AWC students\, $20 for individuals\, and $30 for couples. Tickets may be purchased at the AWC Foundation website foundation.azwestern.edu under the “Shop” tab. Attendees can also purchase tickets at the door 30 minutes prior to showtime. SUMMARY:Binational Jazz Concert
DESCRIPTION:Fulbright Comexus will host its binational jazz concert at San Diego State University (SDSU)\nImperial Valley’s Rodney Auditorium at 6 p.m. on Friday\, Dec. 8\, 2023. The concert marks\nthe end of bicentennial celebrations designed to honor the diplomatic relationship between\nMexico and the United States.\nSeven outstanding musicians will participate in the concert\, in which two U.S. saxophone\nplayers – Salim Washington and Ben Barson – are former Fulbright scholars. The vocalist\,\nborn in Mexicali\, is a professor in Ithaca\, New York. Jonah Francese\, trumpeter\, is a doctoral\ncandidate at the University of Chicago. The remaining three that play the keyboard\, drums\nand bass – brothers Catalán and Jazier García – hail from and work in Mexicali.\nThe event will be inaugurated by Guillermina Gina Nuñez-Mchiri\, the Dean of SDSU Imperial\nValley\, the executive director of COMEXUS\, Hazel Blackmore\, and the Mexican Consul to\nCalexico\, Tarcisio Navarrete Montes de Oca.\nThe concert also comes at the end of the first year of cultural programming of the U.S.-\nMexico Commission for Educational and Cultural Exchange (COMEXUS). The binational\ninstitution that for 20 years had focused its efforts on educational exchange\, and the\nadministration of the Fulbright-García Robles program.\nCOMEXUS launched its new activities one year ago in the field of modern dance\, with an\nevent at the Lincoln Center in New York and another at the Centro Nacional de las Artes in\nMexico City. In August 2023\, COMEXUS organized two modern dance performances at the\nPalace of Fine Arts in Mexico City. All these events paid tribute to José Limón\, the modern\ndance icon born in Sinaloa who made his career in New York.\nWith the Dec. 8 event\, COMEXUS fulfills its intention to support cross-border events that\nhighlight the quality of Mexican and U.S. artists in the region and its binational\ncollaborations with a reputed university that houses a strong proportion of Mexican and\nMexican American students.

The Imperial Parade of Lights\, known for its\ngrandeur and community spirit\, will take place on December 8\, 2023 starting at 6:00 p.m. along Imperial Avenue.\nAfter careful consideration and deliberation\, the City of Imperial is proud to name Mrs. Judy Ralls and Mr. Tom\nRalls as distinguished Co-Grand Marshals for the 2023 Parade of Lights. As retired teachers and long-time\nImperialites\, they are both highly respected figures in the community\, and are known for their outstanding\ncontributions and unwavering commitment to education.\nMrs. Ralls was an educator for over 38 years serving both Ben Hulse Elementary and Imperial High School. She\nhas also served her community as a PTO President\, Girl Scouts Troop Leader\, Sunday School Leader\, and is still\nactive as a Vocational Bible School Teacher. Mrs. Ralls has been awarded “Teacher of the Year” by the City of\nImperial and was placed in Imperial Teacher’s Association’s “Teacher’s Hall of Fame”.\nMr. Ralls taught at Frank Wright Middle School for 26 years. He spent the first couple of years as a special\neducation teacher\, and then transferred over to teaching math. His math classes consistently scored high\, and he\nwas instrumental in the school being awarded the State of California’s highest award\, where each teacher at Frank\nWright was awarded $20\,000. During his time there he also coached flag football\, basketball\, track and field\, and\nvolleyball. Mr. Ralls was nominated for “Citizen of the Year” and was the very first teacher to be placed in the\n“Teacher’s Hall of Fame”\, by the Imperial Teacher’s Association. \nThey have both left a legacy of education here in Imperial as both of their daughters serve as teachers for the\nImperial Unified School District\, and have a grandchild currently pursuing a career in education. Volunteering\nand giving back to the Imperial community has been an important aspect of their life-time commitment.\nAs the Co-Grand Marshals\, they will lead the parade procession\, symbolizing the spirit of unity\, celebration\, and\ncommunity pride. Their presence will undoubtedly enhance the festive atmosphere and create lasting memories\nfor parade attendees and their families. The 2023 Imperial Parade of Lights promises to be a spectacular event\,\nfeaturing an array of vibrant floats\, marching bands\, community groups\, and captivating performances. \nThe CoGrand Marshal’s participation will undoubtedly add an extra layer of excitement and prestige to this cherished\ncommunity tradition.

DESCRIPTION:It’s a Christmas Ball\, an opportunity to celebrate the coming season in an elegant fashion\, returns to the Yuma Civic Center 6 p.m. Dec. 8. \nPresented by Crossroads Mission\, this event for adults 18 and older is uniquely designed for attendees to celebrate the winter holiday. The Civic Center\, 1440 W. Desert Hills Drive\, will be decorated specifically for this occasion. Guests are requested to dress in semi-formal attire. \nDoors will open at 5:30 p.m. Dinner and dessert are included with admission and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase. Live music will be provided by the Chavez Family\, and the evening will include additional activities and features including a photo booth and special guests. \n“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Crossroads Mission for this year’s A Christmas Ball\,” said Yuma Civic Center Manager Joel Radatz. “All proceeds benefit their work\, and we think this will be a wonderful bridge to build between community tradition and community need. This event will combine some familiar favorites with new ideas from the Crossroads team to create a truly unique holiday experience.” \nRSVPs are required for the Christmas Ball. DESCRIPTION:The community is invited to attend “Carols\, Carols\, Carols!” an upcoming choral concert presented by the Arizona Western College Visual and Performing Arts Department.   \nThe concert will feature AWC Chamber Singers and the Yuma Chorale under the direction of Deltrina D. Grimes. Dr. Charles Smalley will be the guest conductor for the performance. The concert will also feature the Royalaires\, Kofa High School’s advanced choir\, under the direction of Choral Director Megan O’Brien\, an AWC alumni.   \n“Christmas Carols have been with us since at least the 4th century. The first is credited to St. Hilary of Poitiers\, ‘Jesus refulsit omnium’ (Jesus illuminates all)\, according to ‘Answer\,’ a London periodical. Carols are a perfect way to begin the holiday season. The AWC Choral Concert ‘Carols\, Carols Carols!’ will feature carols old\, new\, sacred\, and secular. The event will include an audience participation sing-along. Consider joining us for an evening of enjoyable music and singing\,” said Grimes.The performance is free and open to the public. The concert will begin at 7:00pm on Friday\, Dec. 8\, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church\, located at the corner of 16th St. and 14th Ave. Donations are welcomed and greatly appreciated.
