DESCRIPTION:Imperial Valley 9/11 Memorial and Stair Climb Committee.  \nA committee that represents the Fire Fighter Community\, Law Enforcement Community\, and Public/Private organizations with the mission of ensuring that the Imperial Valley “Never Forgets” the tragic events that took place on September 11\, 2001. We do this by hosting a memorial stair climb that honors and pays tribute to the 343 fire fighters\, the 60 law enforcement personnel and the 10 emergency medical personnel who made the ultimate sacrifice that Tuesday morning in 2001. \n EVENT DETAILS: This year marks the 22nd Anniversary of September 11\, and for the Imperial Valley we will host the 10th Annual 9/11 Memorial and Stair Climb event at the Imperial Valley Fairgrounds on Saturday\, September 9\, 2023\, with our memorial ceremony beginning at 7:45 p.m. followed by our stair climb at 8:00 p.m. \nOur Memorial Stair Climb is a way for the community to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11\, 2001. Each participant climbs or walks the equivalent of the 110 stories of the World Trade Center carrying the name and photo of a fallen hero to symbolically complete their climb.

DESCRIPTION:Imperial Valley College will be holding its annual 9-11 Memorial Ceremony at 8:40 a.m. Monday at the flag pole in front of the main administration building on Aten Road in Imperial. \nThe ceremony start time represents the time terrorists\, in hijacked passenger aircraft\, first struck the World Trade Center in New York City on September 11\, 2001. \nThe brief ceremony will involve remarks by Lennor M. Johnson\, Ed.D\, superintendent/president of IVC\, and guest speakers Imperial County Sheriff Fred Miramontes\, representing first responders\, and Ens. Scott Torres\, USN\, from the Naval Air Facility El Centro\, representing the military. \nThe Naval Air Facility Color Guard also will participate as will fire departments and law enforcement representatives from around the Valley\, as well as IVC students. \nThe event is being coordinated by the IVC Associated Students.

SUMMARY:Mariachi sin Fronteras Festival - 2023 Mexican Independence Day
DESCRIPTION:  \nWHAT: SDSU Imperial Valley\, the Calexico Rotary Club and the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico will host the Mariachi sin Fronteras festival in celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day on Sept. 16. \n\nThe event – which is free and open to the public – will have more than 20 local food\, drinks\, arts and crafts vendors\, including musical and arts performances from Folkloric Sunshine\, Mariachi Amanecer\, Grupo Norteno Corona and Mariachi Aurora de Calexico. The Consulate of Mexico in Calexico will voice the traditional “Grito de Independencia” to conclude the celebration of the event. \n\nA special\, visual exhibition of Mexican popular proverbs called\, “¡A Darle que es Mole de Olla!” will be available to visit at the Steppling Art Gallery during the event. \n\nAll proceeds will fund scholarships for both local high school and SDSU Imperial Valley students looking to begin or advance their higher education journeys. It is highly encouraged for attendees to bring lawn chairs or blankets as the Rollie Carrillo Quad will be open for seating. \n\nInterview clips from the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico and the Calexico Rotary Club are available for preliminary quotes or broadcast coverage.\n\nWHEN: Saturday\, Sept. 16\, doors will open at 6 p.m.\n\nWHERE: SDSU Imperial Valley\, 720 Heber Ave. Calexico\, Calif. 92231.  \n \nPARKING: Parking is available at the parking lot located off E. Sherman Ave. Additional public parking can be found on surrounding streets.
