DESCRIPTION:  \nWHAT: SDSU Imperial Valley\, the Calexico Rotary Club and the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico will host the Mariachi sin Fronteras festival in celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day on Sept. 16. \n\nThe event – which is free and open to the public – will have more than 20 local food\, drinks\, arts and crafts vendors\, including musical and arts performances from Folkloric Sunshine\, Mariachi Amanecer\, Grupo Norteno Corona and Mariachi Aurora de Calexico. The Consulate of Mexico in Calexico will voice the traditional “Grito de Independencia” to conclude the celebration of the event. \n\nA special\, visual exhibition of Mexican popular proverbs called\, “¡A Darle que es Mole de Olla!” will be available to visit at the Steppling Art Gallery during the event. \n\nAll proceeds will fund scholarships for both local high school and SDSU Imperial Valley students looking to begin or advance their higher education journeys. It is highly encouraged for attendees to bring lawn chairs or blankets as the Rollie Carrillo Quad will be open for seating. \n\nInterview clips from the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico and the Calexico Rotary Club are available for preliminary quotes or broadcast coverage.\n\nWHEN: Saturday\, Sept. 16\, doors will open at 6 p.m.\n\nWHERE: SDSU Imperial Valley\, 720 Heber Ave. Calexico\, Calif. 92231.  \n \nPARKING: Parking is available at the parking lot located off E. DESCRIPTION:Fostering Hope Yuma’s mission is to empower and support individuals involved in foster care\, including foster children\, foster parents\, social workers and our local community. Our conference brings together like-minded individuals and organizations dedicated to creating a nurturing community\, providing stable homes\, and advocating for equitable policies in the foster care system. Ave 8E.A campus map can be found here. \nWHY: Join Arizona Western College as we officially break ground on the new Law Enforcement Training Academy. The project will centralize training for LETA cadets from across the state in a purpose-built facility housed on the AWC Yuma Campus. The over 20\,000-square-foot building will be adaptable to accommodate high industry demand\, increase training capabilities\, and expand cadet capacity at AWC. \nThe project was funded through $7.5 million from former Gov. Doug Ducey to bolster law enforcement training and $2.7 million in AWC funds. Construction is expected to be complete by Fall 2024.“Since the inception of the AWC Law Enforcement Training Academy\, the program has grown exponentially. It is no longer just a local training program and center\, but has expanded to become a high-demand regional training center. This new facility will be used for years to come to train our law enforcement officers to best serve our communities\,” said Alfonso Zavala\, AWC Law Enforcement Training Academy Director.Reetika Dhawan\, AWC Entrepreneurial College Chief Executive Officer and Vice President of Workforce & Healthcare\, added\, “The new LETA building illuminates a radiant ray of opportunity for our community. By bringing law enforcement training closer to home\, we unlock doors for aspiring officers\, enabling them to pursue their dreams without geographical barriers. This strategic placement not only enhances accessibility\, but also fosters a stronger connection between law enforcement and the community they serve.
