DESCRIPTION:The El Centro Library is hosting Dr. Seuss Family Night from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday\, March 6\, in honor of Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America Day. \nTheodor Seuss Geisel is an American children’s author and cartoonist who wrote more than 60 books under the pen name Dr. Seuss. He is also known for writing the famous book “The Cat in the Hat” in 1957. \n“This will be a wholesome family event that pays tribute to one of the best American authors in our nation’s history\,” said El Centro Mayor Sylvia Marroquin. “There is no better place to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s birthday and Read Across America Day than at our beautiful library.” \nRead Across America Day is March 2 and was established in 1998 by the National Education Association to get kids excited about reading. \nThe event will include crafts\, games\, refreshments and music. DESCRIPTION:The City of El Centro is inviting the public to a Vietnam Veterans Day Ceremony from 9 a.m. to noon\, on Friday\, March 29\, at Bucklin Park. \nFriday’s event is being coordinated in collaboration with VFW Post 9305. From 9 a.m. to noon\, a video composed of photos from current VFW Post 9305 and written testimonials from local and national Vietnam Veterans will be available on a big screen TV at the event. \nThe ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. with a traditional gun salute. \n“It’s important to continue to thank our Veterans for the service they provided to our country\,” said City of El Centro Mayor Sylvia Marroquin. “Locally\, we have several Vietnam Veterans we want to honor and acknowledge for their heroic service.” \nAccording to the U.S. Department of Defense website\, the observation commemorates the service and sacrifices made by nearly 3 million service members who served in Vietnam. March 29\, 1973\, was the last day troops left Vietnam. \nMore than 58\,000 Americans were killed\, and many thousands more were wounded and injured or determined to be missing
