SUMMARY:VIN Etching Free Event
DESCRIPTION:The Yuma Police Department has partnered with the AZ DPS RATTLER Task Force\, Arizona Automobile Theft Authority\, and Target to host a FREE VIN Etching Event. The event will take place on Friday\, March 8th\, 2024\, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.\, in the Target parking lot\, located at 1450 Yuma Palms PKWY. The vehicle owner will need to show proof of registration and will be required to complete a consent form. \nEtching your vehicle’s VIN number is an effective visual deterrent against auto theft and takes less than 10 minutes per vehicle to complete. When a vehicle is stolen\, the thief must change the identity of the vehicle by changing the VIN identification plate on the dashboard. With a vehicle that has its window glass VIN etched\, the thief must replace and dispose of each piece of window glass\, which drastically cuts into their profit margin. As a thief contemplates stealing your vehicle\, there is a high probability they will notice the etching on the glass and may move on to an unmarked vehicle. Reducing the chances of you becoming a victim of a crime.

SUMMARY:DEA National Take Back
DESCRIPTION:The Yuma Police Department and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will give the public an opportunity to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired\, unused and unwanted prescription drugs.  Bring your pills for disposal to the Yuma Police Department\, 1500 S. 1st Avenue on Saturday\, October 28\, 2023 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The service is free\, and anonymous. We will not ask or request for your identification. \nThis initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue. Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion\, misuse\, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high\, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs. Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends\, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition\, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash— pose potential safety and health hazards.
