The City of El Centro is inviting the public to a Vietnam Veterans Day Ceremony from 9 a.m. to noon, on Friday, March 29, at Bucklin Park.
Friday’s event is being coordinated in collaboration with VFW Post 9305. From 9 a.m. to noon, a video composed of photos from current VFW Post 9305 and written testimonials from local and national Vietnam Veterans will be available on a big screen TV at the event.
The ceremony will begin at 10 a.m. with a traditional gun salute.
“It’s important to continue to thank our Veterans for the service they provided to our country,” said City of El Centro Mayor Sylvia Marroquin. “Locally, we have several Vietnam Veterans we want to honor and acknowledge for their heroic service.”
According to the U.S. Department of Defense website, the observation commemorates the service and sacrifices made by nearly 3 million service members who served in Vietnam. March 29, 1973, was the last day troops left Vietnam.
More than 58,000 Americans were killed, and many thousands more were wounded and injured or determined to be missing
