DESCRIPTION:The Yuma High School art program will be hosting its annual end of year art exhibition “Jailhouse Art\,” on May 20\, 2024\, in the Snider Auditorium hallway. \n“I’m excited to show others what I’ve created and worked hard on\,” YHS Advanced Placement (AP) Art and Design student Leslie Romero said. “I decided to showcase a painting of a beach at night that I worked on in my AP art class and I chose it because I like nature.” \nThe “Jailhouse Art” exhibition will include 3-dimensional sculptures\, paintings\, and drawings that students have chosen to showcase from what they worked on throughout the year. All students from Art 1\, 2\, 3\, and AP\, will be participating in the exhibition. \n“I want everyone to come see what students have been making and the ideas they’ve been exploring\,” YHS art teacher Jillian Vanhorn said. “It’s a great chance for students to showcase their work to family\, friends\, and members of the community.” \nThe exhibition is free to the public from 5-7 p.m. and Yuma High students will also have an early-access opportunity to check out the exhibition during their fifth and sixth period classes.

DESCRIPTION:Performance will feature works by Mozart\, Brahms\, Chopin\, and Schubert \nThe Arizona Western College Visual and Performing Arts Department will present internationally-known\, American pianist Victor Rosenbaum in concert on Thursday\, Feb. 29.The performance will begin at 7:00pm at Yuma High School’s Snider Auditorium\, 400 S. 6th Ave.\, featuring works by Mozart\, Brahms\, Chopin\, and Schubert. The concert is free for the community to attend.Victor Rosenbaum has concertized widely as a soloist and chamber music performer in the United States\, Europe\, Israel\, Brazil\, Russia\, and Asia in such prestigious halls as Tully Hall in New York City and the Hermitage in St. Petersburg\, Russia. He has collaborated with artists such as Leonard Rose\, Paul Katz\, Arnold Steinhardt\, Robert Mann\, Joseph Silverstein\, James Buswell\, and Malcolm Lowe as well as the Brentano\, Borromeo\, and Cleveland String Quartets.  A musician of diverse talents\, Rosenbaum is also a composer and has frequently conducted in the Boston area and beyond.Recently retired from the faculty of New England Conservatory in Boston where he taught for more than 50 years\, he chaired its piano department for more than a decade and was also Chair of Chamber Music. Also a faculty member of Mannes School of Music in New York from 2004-2017\, he has been Visiting Professor of Piano at the Eastman School of Music\, a guest teacher at Juilliard\, and presents lectures\, workshops\, and master classes for teachers’ groups and schools both in the U. S. and abroad.Recently\, he has been teaching and performing in Japan\, Korea\, Israel\, Taiwan\, Austria\, and Bulgaria; and was appointed Visiting Professor of Piano and Chamber Music at National Taiwan Normal University.  Rosenbaum was also Director and President of the Longy School of Music in Cambridge\, MA from 1985-2001.  His highly praised CDs can be found on the Bridge and Fleur de Son labels.

SUMMARY:Yuma Union High School District Mastery of the Arts Program
DESCRIPTION:The new Yuma Union High School District Mastery of the Arts Program (MAP) is hosting its second informational night on Monday\, May 1\, 2023 from 6-7 p.m. at Snider Auditorium on the Yuma High School campus. \nThe event is open to all of Yuma County. \n“Families can learn details about what the program is going to consist of\, including basic details and logistics\, possible class offerings\, and much more\,” MAP Executive Director Ginny Legros said. “We’re just excited to share these additional opportunities in the arts for YUHSD students.” \nThe program\, which opens in the 2023-24 school year\, is designed for all YUHSD students who have a purposeful interest within the arts. \nThe intent is to work collaboratively with each of the YUHSD high schools’ fine arts programs and community artists to grow\, enhance\, and refine a student’s skill sets within the art disciplines.  \nAll program courses are designed to be an extension of a student’s fine arts high school experience.  \nThe courses are open to 9-12th grade students interested in taking coursework beyond\, and in addition to\, their home high school offerings. All courses offered will fulfill elective credit only.
