A fun moment full of games, relays, music, and arts and crafts.

Special Treats:

The first 250 children will receive a free hot dog and a goodie bag!

Admission: Absolutely FREE! This event is open to everyone in the community.

“Land of Milk & Honey” Exhibition

“Land of Milk & Honey” Exhibition to Open at SDSU Imperial Valley’s Steppling Art Gallery

WHAT: SDSU Imperial Valley will open its newest art exhibition, “Land of Milk & Honey,” on Friday, Oct. 13 with a special opening reception, which is also open to the public. The exhibition, which runs from Oct. 13 through Dec. 12, is brought by Luis Hernandez, co-founder of MexiCali Biennial and director of the university’s Steppling Art Gallery.
MexiCali Biennial is a contemporary visual arts organization that works to provide a platform for local underrepresented and contemporary artists. The exhibition will showcase artwork from local and regional artists inspired by the region’s agriculture and foodways. The participating artists draw inspiration from the Latinx, migrant community. For more information, go to SDSU Imperial Valley’s website.

Viva Mexico Celebration

 

Join us for an evening of Mexican culture, art, and music at the Carmen Durazo Cultural Arts Center!

Experience the vibrant colors of Mexico through an art exhibition featuring creations by our Paint Night participants.

But that’s not all! Prepare to be enchanted by the soul-stirring melodies of Mariachi Aurora de Calexico, and be captivated by the graceful moves of the Cultural Arts Center Folkloric Dance Class.

The exhibit will run from September 12th to September 21st, 2023.

Mariachi sin Fronteras Festival – 2023 Mexican Independence Day

 

WHAT: SDSU Imperial Valley, the Calexico Rotary Club and the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico will host the Mariachi sin Fronteras festival in celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day on Sept. 16. 
The event – which is free and open to the public – will have more than 20 local food, drinks, arts and crafts vendors, including musical and arts performances from Folkloric Sunshine, Mariachi Amanecer, Grupo Norteno Corona and Mariachi Aurora de Calexico. The Consulate of Mexico in Calexico will voice the traditional “Grito de Independencia” to conclude the celebration of the event. 
A special, visual exhibition of Mexican popular proverbs called, “¡A Darle que es Mole de Olla!” will be available to visit at the Steppling Art Gallery during the event. 
All proceeds will fund scholarships for both local high school and SDSU Imperial Valley students looking to begin or advance their higher education journeys. It is highly encouraged for attendees to bring lawn chairs or blankets as the Rollie Carrillo Quad will be open for seating. 
Interview clips from the Consulate of Mexico in Calexico and the Calexico Rotary Club are available for preliminary quotes or broadcast coverage.

Join us for an inspiring and engaging evening of artistic expression and celebration. The Pride Month Open Mic & Pop Up Exhibit invites individuals of all ages to showcase their talents through singing, dancing, poetry, short stories, paintings, drawings, sculptures, digital art, and more. We welcome visual artists to bring their ready-to-display creations for the pop-up exhibit. This inclusive event will create a supportive and welcoming space for our community to come together and appreciate the diverse forms of artistic expression.
